A Local Agency Run by a Local Business Owner

Laie Wong, founder of SERP Maverick

I’m Laie Wong. I’ve spent 16 years running my own businesses — and in 2023, after firing the agencies that were charging me $30,000 a month, I founded SERP Maverick.

We are the test case. If it does not work on our own businesses, we will never sell it to you.

My Story

Why I Started SERP Maverick

I Know Exactly How You Feel — Because I Lived It

If you own a local business, this probably sounds familiar.

You work hard. You take care of your customers. But the phone does not ring like it should.

So you hire help. One company for your website. One for Google. One for ads. Each one sends you a bill every month. Each one sends you a report full of words you do not understand. And month after month, you ask the same question:

“Is any of this actually working?”

I asked that question for years. At my worst, I was spending over $10,000 a month — per business. I own three businesses, so that was over $30,000 a month going out the door. Thirty thousand dollars. For reports. For promises. For very little return.

It made me angry. It stressed me out. I felt stuck, because I did not know how to do it myself — and the people I paid to know were not getting it done.

So I fired them. Then I made a choice. I took a six-month course, packed into four long weekends, and learned how this really works — SEO, Google rankings, websites, and ads. Then I tested everything on my own businesses first. My gym. My nutrition store. My clients’ pool company. Some ideas failed. The ones that worked, we kept.

Those ideas became SERP Maverick. Today we use that same system for pool companies, medspas, gyms, builders, fence and roofing companies, and local shops across Louisiana and beyond.

We are the test case. If it does not work on our own businesses, we will never sell it to you.

About the AI hype: Right now, every small business owner is being hit with ads that say AI can do all your marketing for you. Be careful. A lot of those cheap AI services are only after your money. AI is a tool, and we use it — we stay ahead of it. But AI in the wrong hands will cost you more than it makes you. If the base of your local marketing is broken — your Google profile, your reviews, your website — no AI tool can fix that. The foundation has to be right first.

That is what we do. We audit what you have. We fix what is broken. We fill in what is missing. And we watch your spending every month, so your money brings you customers — not just bills.

Our promise: We spend our clients’ money like it is our own — because we learned the hard way what it feels like when an agency does not.

The AI Pivot

Then AI Changed Everything — So We Rebuilt

Just as SERP Maverick was hitting its stride, AI flipped the marketing industry on its head — again. Most agencies reacted one of two ways: they raised their prices, or they started selling cheap, robot-written work that makes every business sound the same.

Most agencies quit in the last year. We did not.

We chose a third path. We rebuilt SERP Maverick from the inside out: the same founder-led strategy, the same foundation-first system we proved on our own businesses — now run lean and AI-powered, so the work gets done faster and better, without a big team’s payroll baked into your invoice. That’s how we can say it plainly: superior service at affordable prices. The full foundation build is $2,497 one time. Ongoing management is $997 a month. A few years ago, agencies charged several times that for less. We know — we used to pay their invoices.
